I haven't reread the book since it came out, but I remember the queasiness I felt at the end. I didn't think of Harris reclaiming the monster label for his character. My unease was due to what I saw as Clarice's fate, possibly written in there from the start in "Lambs". The profiler so fascinated by evil that evil swallows her, literally. In other words, he's everything she always wanted. That is truly disturbing.
